Manchester Landlord celebrates with the best in British renewables

Green Landlord Beech Properties celebrated at the British Renewable Energy Awards last week by winning the Pioneer Award ahead of runner-up supermarket giant Sainsbury’s.

The 6th annual British Renewable Awards paid tribute to the UK renewable energy industry’s achievements at a packed gala dinner attended by around 350 people in a Kensington hotel London. Hosted by UK BIG Lottery Fund Chairman, Peter Ainsworth, Beech Properties was named Pioneer of the Year for pioneering the use of renewable technology in its student properties in Manchester.

Landlord Stephen Beech, Proprietor of Beech Properties, commented “This is our second award in the month for our green lettings business and is great encouragement for other Landlords to install renewable technologies with the demand for energy efficient rental properties increasing. It shows that small companies can compete with the big boys when it comes to being green in business and being recognised by The Renewable Energy Association (REA), the voice of the renewables industry in the UK, is just fantastic.”

Beech Properties was awarded for its portfolio of energy efficient rental properties near Manchester’s universities. Landlord Stephen Beech has installed green technologies including solar panels, air source heat pumps and under-floor heating benefiting both tenants and his company. He won the best refurbishment award in last month’s Environment and Energy Awards, has just been shortlisted in the 2011 Nectar Small Business Awards, and was commended in the 2010 Energy Innovation Awards.

Beech Properties joined a record amount of over two hundred nominations for this year’s Renewable Energy Association’s Awards and other categories included Community, Innovator, Region and Installer Awards.

REA’s Chief Executive, Gaynor Hartnell, commented “These awards recognise outstanding achievement in the British Renewable Energy sector. They are a tribute to innovation and excellence. The exceptional quality of all the shortlisted entries serves to demonstrate the exacting standards, talent and originality within this industry.”

On the back of his success with Beech Properties, Stephen Beech is now helping other property owners get grants for solar panels with his company Beech Solar. He says “I’m committed to demonstrating that going green is not only good for the environment, it’s good for your finances too.”
